Slough.

Pronounced Sluff. “Slough is necrotic tissue that needs to be removed from the wound for healing to take place”

Come covid bugs, fall on his brow!

He can’t be amongst humans now,

He was barely human anyhow.

Swarm over, Death!

His germs will blow to smithereens

Those air-conditioned, bright canteens,

Contaminating by any means,

With his every breath

Mess up this mess who plays the clown

Sold out the House for two billion down

Lies both to us and to the crown

Years after years.

Yes, get that man with double gin,

Who’ll always cheat and always win,

Who washes his repulsive skin

In women’s tears:

And smash his desk of polished oak

And smash his hands so used to stroke

And stop his boring dirty joke

And make him yell.

But spare the poor young clerks who add

The profits of the stinking cad;

It’s not their fault that they are mad,

They’ve tasted Hell.

By me, on seeing our appalling excuse for a Prime minister visiting a hospital without bothering to wear a mask – with many apologies to, and much egregious and blatant theft from Sir John Betjeman.
