Stoning Stonewall

Oh no! It sounds like those evil manipulators over at Stonewall have been trying to trans the kids again. Then they had to issue a statement denying they said anything like that at all.

So let’s start with the actual facts.

This is what Stonewall said:

“Research suggests that children as young as 2 recognise their trans identity. Yet, many nurseries and schools teach a binary understanding of pre-assigned gender.

LGBTQ-inclusive and affirming education is crucial for the wellbeing of all young people!”

I’m not seeing the issue here, even if you are ignorant enough to disagree with the message. This tweet is commenting on research data, and its relevance to Early Years Provision.

Inclusive and affirming education is a goal we should all be behind. It doesn’t do any harm, and evidence indicates that it’s actually hugely beneficial *whether a child continues in their early identity or not*. Being able to safely and confidently explore roles and identities is hugely important for children’s development as individuals, and it’s good for their mental health. And, for one last time, it’s not like affirming a child’s belief they are a dog. Some children do go through phases of wanting to be someone or something else. The way to deal with this is not to go…
